How To Create Easy, Everyday Beach Waves

If you want to wear beachy waves every day but struggle to find the time to achieve the hairstyle, then this is a must-read for you! This tutorial on easy, everyday beach waves will help you achieve your look in less than half the time you usually would. Are you ready? Let’s do this!

Step 1: Prep the Hair

If you really want the curl to hold, it’s better to curl hair that hasn’t been washed for a day. This gives the hair a little grit for the curls to hold. Blowdrying the hair before curling is also very helpful. Think of it as a primer in makeup; it sets your hair before curling.

Now, apply dry shampoo on your hair to give it more grit. If you have silky hair, the more you need to use dry shampoo or other bodifiers.

Step 2: Section and Curl

Divide the hair into two sections: top and bottom. For the bottom section, divide it into the left and right sections.

You can now start curling. Take two-inch sections of the hair and start curling. Holding your curling iron, go behind the hair and start wrapping the hair around it. Curl away from the face. Also, leave three inches at the end of the hair to give it a real beachy look. After 5-10 seconds, release the hair, rest the curl on your hand, and give it a little bounce. Let the hair cool on your hand as this will make the curl hold better.

When you’re done with the bottom section, bring the hair to the front and apply hairspray. Bring the hair to the back afterward.

Move on to curling the top section. Part the hair the way you like to and spray dry shampoo to give it a bit of volume on top. Curl the hair like how you did with the bottom section. But for the hair in the front section of the face, make slight pulling motions when you make the curls. This will create a “bangs-like” effect. Once you’re done curling, spray with hairspray again.

Step 3: Toss and Style

Bring your hair towards the front of the face. Get a wide tooth comb and comb down the curls. This will give the curls a slightly messy look, perfect for beachy waves. After that, use the comb and take it in the curls and start pulling up (similar to teasing but with just one pull). This gives the hair extra volume—a good trick to keep in mind!

Finish off with hair spray to make sure the curls hold and stay in place and then toss and style to your liking!

To really achieve beach waves, go for a barrel that’s at least an inch big if you have long hair. If you have shorter hair, go for smaller barrels to lock in the curls better. Also, finding the right hair care and styling products will be detrimental in giving you the look you want, whether it’s a messy beachy wave look or something more polished. Happy curling!
