Choosing the Face Oil According to Your Skin Type

Our body naturally produces oil, which gives our skin that youthful and radiant glow. However, that production significantly decreases as we age.

Oil is necessary to maintain a healthy balance on the skin–without it, skin blemishes like fine lines, wrinkles, and breakouts increase.

One effective way to maintain moisture in the skin while protecting it from damage is by using a facial oil.

We’ve rounded up the best face oils for every skin type. Check them out below:

Dry Skin

Camellia / Tsubaki oil is one of the most popular facial oils in Japan. Renee’s personal favorites in this type are the Blossom Jeju Camellia Soombi Oil, Tatcha Pure One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil, and Tatcha Gold Camellia Beauty Oil.

Aside from being a delicious cooking ingredient, olive oil also restores moisture in your skin. Safflower oil removes dirt and roughness, while sunflower oil is packed with nutrients that remove inflammation. Meanwhile, sweet almond oil protects your skin from UV damage.

Oily or Acne-prone Skin

Tea tree oil may be an essential oil but it deserves to be in this spot due to its antioxidant properties.

Maracuja oil, which is a key ingredient in the Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer, has essential fatty acids that keep your skin looking supple. Grapeseed oil has Vitamin E that helps battle free radicals, while apricot seed oil promotes faster skin healing.

You can also use evening primrose oil, which is found in Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate, for extra hydration.

Sensitive Skin

Sea buckthorn oil (i.e. Fresh Seaberry Moisturizing Face Oil) makes your skin achieve a natural glow. Chia seed oil, which comes from a known superfood, relieves peeling without the extra harshness. With this regenerative oil, you get moisture deep into your skin’s surface. It de-puffs skin effectively for an added suppleness.

Avocado oil and coconut oil are also excellent for hydrating and moisturizing your face mildly. Coconut has antimicrobial properties that treat acne and protect your skin from different kinds of bacteria. These oils do not sting so your sensitive skin will surely benefit a lot from them.

Aging or Mature Skin

Rosehip oil is rich in linoleic acids which work great for aging skin. It can also be beneficial for oily or combination skin. Jojoba oil, on the other hand, moisturizes skin all day. This type of facial oil works great for all skin types and it’s also an awesome balancing oil.

Argan oil not only benefits your hair but also your skin. It softens dry patches and lightly moisturizes your skin while reducing acne. Marula oil, on the other hand, is a lightweight oil that absorbs into the skin easily. It softens fine lines that are often the problem with aging skin.
